Aiming for the Iceberg

Maybe we should file this one under 'Be careful what you wish for'. It has been announced that Guiding Light co-head writer David Kreizman will be joining Jean Passanante as co-Head writer of As the World Turns. Now, I've been wanting fresh blood in the show's writing department for a long time and bringing in a co-head writer is often a way of phasing out the person who currently has that job.

So, I should be happy. However, I know that Guiding Light fans feel much the same way about David Kreizman that ATWT fans feel about Passanante: that he basically destroyed their show. Instead of being a good thing, the teaming up of these two particular writers may be the final nail in the coffin for As the World Turns.

The statement from the equally awful Executive Producer of ATWT didn't make me feel much better:

"I am thrilled that Dave and Jean will make up the new head writing team," said ATWT executive producer Chris Goutman in a statement. "Both writers have an incredible respect for the show's rich history and I am confident this partnership will generate the exciting, character-based stories for which ATWT is known."

You have to wonder, does Goutman know that he's full of shit or is he actually just that deluded? Character based stories?! ATWT hasn't been know for those in a very long time, and certainly not during Passanante's reign of terror. Respect for history? If you're trying to make us laugh, that particular joke is too painful to ever be amusing, Gouty.
