Kish: A Little Fish

There isn't much to write in regard to Kish from the last few days. They weren't on yesterday, and though Oliver was onscreen today, it was really just to break up the fight between Rex and Schuyler, fill them in on Stacy being missing, and then to try and signal a search helicopter for help.

He of course looked incredibly cute while doing all of this, but it didn't leave me much to comment on story wise. To be fair, I did lose one Fish scene to a Special Report about President Clinton, but it didn't seem like much had happened when they got back to the show.

FYI, though, my favorite line today was one of Schuyler's, after Fish had told them about Mitch throwing Stacy out into the storm: "Stacy got thrown out of her own kidnapping?" Ha!

I should also add that Oliver did become a father today, not that he knows it yet. He and Stacy now have a baby daughter named Sierra Rose. I cannot wait to see Oliver adjusting to being a father! You know he's going to be an awesome one. It will also be interesting to see the effect it has on his relationship with Kyle. Yes, they're in love, but they've really just started dating. They don't even live together yet, are they really ready to raise a baby together?

There's always Oliver's parents to consider, too. One wonders what sort of a role, if any, they might take in their grandchild's life since they haven't shown any interest in their son post-coming out.

Whatever happens, it's definitely going to be a daytime milestone. Oliver Fish is now the first gay male parent in daytime history and that's groundbreaking!

And he's the most stable and together parent for Sierra Rose (even if he doesn't know about her true parentage).

I'm glad that you brought up the fact that Kyle and Oliver are just dating right now and that they don't live together. It seems like some folks would LOVE to believe that Oliver and Kyle will just automatically decide that they need to be together because of the baby.

This is a great way to bring up real-life situations for the pairing to deal with, once the truth comes out (which probably won't happen for 5 to 6 months at the latest).

Yes, Oliver was excited about the possibility of being a father, but he really wasn't thinking that it could actually be REAL.

He and Kyle are still getting to know each other again. They're not back in college anymore and they've grown and changed from those two young men.

At times, I think some folks want to see fan fiction in what they want to see for Kyle and Oliver on screen.

I really do think Kyle and Fish need time before they're ready to settle down and raise Sierra together.

I think a lot of people are excited at the idea of Kish raising a baby together, and I am, too. I just want it to come about in a realistic (or as close to realistic as you can get on a soap) way.

I suppose I can understand if some fans do want this to be more like fan fiction. After all, there aren't a lot of gay couples onscreen, and even if there were tons, Kish is something truly special. People are very invested in them.

But it shouldn't be a plot point, it should come from within the characters themselves. They need to be ready.

Luckily, I think the writers at OLTL are well aware of this. They haven't let us down with Kish yet, after all!

Exactly and that's why I'm being patient with what's currently being written for Kyle and Oliver as individual characters and as a couple.

I just wish that there was a way for Nick Chavez to return, but it seems like Nick R.'s doing very well on his other projects.

I, personally fell for and utterly adored Nick Chavez and I want him to find his own man to love and adore.

He was also another groundbreaking character that OLTL created in such a short time. An out and proud gay man of color. He wasn't on the downlow or a hermaphrodite.

I loved Nick, too. Nicholas Rodriguez was so good in the role and I really want to see Nick find happiness after he got his heart broken by Kyle. It would also be amazing to see a story with an openly gay teacher at Llanview High, especially since we have a built in set of teen characters to be in his classes.

I'm hoping that we haven't actually seen the last of him, that it's going to be a situation like with Ford, where he's gone for awhile but is on our screens again a few months later.

Excellent point! I hadn't considered that.
